What Are Industrial Plumbers

The Role of a Commercial Plumber

The average person’s idea of a plumber is the person who comes to fix a leaky pipe in their house or figure out why the toilet won’t flush. While fixing household plumbing problems is what most people think about for plumbers, there’s a whole other side to the industry.

Residential plumbers are the ones who go to homes and make sure their draining system is in order. For water concerns on a larger scale, such as a city hall, companies and organizations use industrial or commercial plumbers

The article below explains the difference between residential plumbers and industrial plumbers, including the services industrial plumbers offer.

What Can the Standard Plumber Help With?

Residential plumbers

Most residential plumbers are known for doing house pipe repairs, pipe unclogging and cleaning, disposal repair and sometimes for repairing or providing water heaters. They also might do maintenance on the above parts of a water line. Residential plumbers help fix water temperature crises and make it so homeowners can make use of their water supply at any time of the day.

While these are beneficial for the individual, there is not as big of an impact on the community in general. On the other hand, a water line’s ability to feed into a working waste treatment facility and the use of public restrooms are all things that are made possible by industrial plumbers. Without industrial plumbers, a lot of the daily functions people enjoy doing and places people enjoy going to wouldn’t be in operation.

Industrial Plumber Requirements

In order to become a plumber in general, one needs to get a license. But how one goes about getting a plumbing license differs for residential plumbers and industrial plumbers. A plumber’s license for industrial plumbing can only be earned after a four-to-five-year apprenticeship working in the field. Education

Getting an apprenticeship has its own requirements. Future apprentices have to have graduated from high school or earned a similar recognition, such as the GED. Afterward, a lot of apprenticeships will have a requirement that apprentice hopefuls have taken trade school classes on the subject, especially welding. Other classes offered at technical schools that could be helpful are piping systems and tool use.

Those applying then have to pass a simple math test and know how to use a computer. Apprentices are required to complete 1,700 to 2,000 hours of paid work in the field every year and over 200 hours of extra instruction in the field. Once they have completed their internship, they can get their license and start their jobs as official plumbers.

Services Offered

The services offered by industrial plumbers can be somewhat similar to residential plumbers or completely different. Due to the nature of the  projects industrial plumbers work on, they do a lot of maintenance to prevent disasters

Commercial Services

Industrial plumbers do a lot of repiping because the demand for commercial business pipes on an average day is much higher than the demand on household pipes. The nature of the work also requires industrial plumbers to be more familiar with different materials than residential plumbers.
